Three Mexican teams in Norceca Maeva’s semifinals
MANZANILLO, Colima, October 2, 2010 - The highly
expected semifinals of Norceca Maeva 2010 will have a great
presence of Mexican teams. In men’s competition, Mexico 1 will
run against Cuba and Canada 1 will battle against Puerto Rico.
In women’s competition, two Aztec teams will
contest against each other on the semifinals with Mexico 1
versus Mexico 2, while Puerto Rico squares off against Cuba.
Puerto Rico’s Yarleen Santiago-Darian Acevedo was
the first women’s couple to qualify for the semifinals,
defeating Canada 1 (Kacie Mac Tavish-Kristini Valjas), in three
sets, 17-21, 21-17, 15-12.
The second women’s team to get to semifinals was
Mexico 1 (Vanessa Virgen-Rosario Reyes), after defeating Canada
1 (Kacie Mac Tavish-Kristini Valjas) in a great game decided in
three sets, 21-18, 17-21, 15-13.
Mexico 1 (Martha Revuelta-Xitlally Herrera) got
to the semifinals after a good victory over Canada 1 (Tammy
Thomas-Kristina Vlcek), in two sets, 21-16, 21-12.
To complete the women’s semifinals, Cuba (Nirian
Sinal-Kirenia Ballard) defeated Canada 2 (Tammy Thomas-Kristina
Vlcek) in a tremendous match, 21-19, 22-20.
The first men’s team to qualify to the semifinals
was Cuba, when Yoendry Kindelan-Sergio González defeated Puerto
Rico’s Roberto Rodríguez-Orlando Irizarry, 21-11, 21-15.
Canada 1 (Josh Binstock-Andrew Hinchey) had a
surprising victory 21-15, 16-21, 15-9 over Mexico 1 (Aldo
Miramontes-Juan Virgen) in men’s, and qualified to the
semifinals of Norceca Maeva 2010.
Puerto Rico, formed by Roberto Rodríguez-Orlando
Irizarry, defeated Mexico 2 (Ulises Ontiveros-Lombardo Ontiveros),
in two sets, 21-18, 21-15, and qualified to the semifinals that
are to be held this Sunday.
The last semifinalist of the night was Mexico 1
(Aldo Miramontes-Juan Virgen), eliminating Canada 2 (Maverick
Hatch-Jessi Lelliot) in a great match that ended 21-12, 19-21,
15-13.
